Balance Work & Life

YOU CAN BALANCE WORK & LIFE WHEN YOU STOP BALANCING IT

A true balance between work and life comes with knowing that your life activities are integrated and not separated, says the inspirational speaker and author, Michael Thomas Sunnarborg.  And this is exactly what we shall be talking about here.

Life is a daily hustle, and with every passing day, the pace is just ever increasing. Every day, there’s a new opportunity, a new challenge and a new solution. In all this, people are trying hard to survive and maintain balance- balance between work and social or personal life. However, this raises a big question that are work and personal life really different?

Let’s start with understanding what work life balance really is. It’s about maintaining a balance, an equilibrium between work life, working hours and the social or personal space. This means, having a life where you are able to work for a certain hours along with being able to go out and have personal time outside work as well.  Having said that, what you fail to realize is that work and personal life aren’t two different things, but one and the same. We’ll tell you how.

Most of us are spending majority of our day at work and are investing almost 9-10 hours. With such an amount of time, it’s hard to be able to segregate the life in two parts and in fact, a bit silly too. To add to it, cribbing about the imbalance only makes the majority of your day unbearable.
Nevertheless, the key to deal with this is to not balance it at all, and in fact, not consider it separate as well.

Start with finding a job that you love to do and a work place you look forward to at the start of the day. It is one way to kick off the day with some positivity. If you turn your leisure into your work, you will surely enjoy what you do. In addition to this, create a happy environment around you wherever you are. You should feel better from the inside, so as to work better and to stay happy.
With all this being said, do not work just for the monetary reasons, but for your own development. This attitude will help you appreciate your work life and life in general. Do not work for appraisals only but work for personal growth. The final aim shouldn’t be to work harder but to work happier.

Along with this, you need to work on your thought process as well, because what you think is what reflects in your actions. Life isn’t always about good and pleasant, it comes with ebbs and flows. In such case, you should prepare yourself to face the problems coming your way and get done without cribbing. Embrace life as it comes, that’s the beauty of it. Also, remove the thoughts of balancing the life as it’ll only add to the pressure. Take cue from the words of life coach and author Rasheed Ogunlaru, “Always take some of the play, fun, freedom and wonder of the weekend into your week and work.” Why not try inculcating this in your life and you will enjoy and appreciate what you have.

Most of the time, we ourselves complicate our lives way more than it actually is. However, we need to remember that work-life balance is actually an illusion. What is important is to keep in mind that you have one life and you need to be awake to experience all of it to the fullest.

You don’t have different lives, just one with limited hours and lots of experiences. The main focus should be to absorb all the positives from those experiences and grow in all the ways, be it professional or personal and the right balance will then be maintained itself.

Remember, as author Heather Schuck says, “You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied with life.”
